Business owners ask me this weekly: "Can I just use AI to optimize my website?" The honest answer is yes, partly — and the parts where AI shines are not the parts most people assume.
First, what website optimization even is
It's making your site do its job better: loading fast, making sense in the first five seconds, answering the questions a real customer has, and making the next step — call, book, buy — obvious. Speed, structure, words and measurement. That's the whole game, and every part of it is judged by two audiences at once: human beings and Google.
Where AI genuinely helps
- First drafts. AI writes a workable draft of a service page or a meta description in seconds. Editing a draft is faster than staring at a blank page.
- Explaining things. "What's a good page speed score?" or "why is my bounce rate high?" — AI is a patient teacher for the vocabulary.
- Small technical fixes. Snippets for redirects, schema markup, image sizing — common problems with common answers.
- Brainstorming. Ten headline options, five FAQ ideas, alternate ways to phrase a service. Volume is where it's unbeatable.
Where AI quietly fails you
- It doesn't know your customers. It has never sat with one of your best clients or heard why they really called. The words that convert are in those conversations, not in a statistical average of the internet.
- It invents facts. AI will confidently write services you don't offer, guarantees you never made, and hours you don't keep. On a business website, that's not a typo — it's a liability.
- It sounds like everyone else. Content generated at arm's length reads generic, and Google has spent years getting better at rewarding pages with real experience behind them.
- It can't see your numbers. AI doesn't know which page actually generates your calls or where visitors give up. Optimization without measurement is just redecoration.
So, should you use it?
Use AI as the assistant, not the strategist. Let it draft; you decide. Let it explain; your numbers decide. And before anything goes live, someone who knows your business — you or someone you trust with it — should read every word and check every claim.
Bottom line: AI makes website optimization faster, not automatic. The wins still come from knowing your customer and watching your real numbers. If you want a straight answer on where your site stands — and what's worth doing first — that's exactly what a free strategy call is for.
