Is it time for some website maintenance? Has it been more than three months since you updated your theme and plugins in WordPress? If so, keep reading!
Website maintenance is the process of keeping a website up-to-date so that it runs smoothly and performs optimally. Website maintenance includes tasks like ensuring all the links on your site are working, regularly updating content, and fixing any broken links.
Website maintenance also includes updating your plugins, theme, and WordPress.
Quarterly WordPress & SEO Maintenace Update
Regularly updating and maintaining your site is crucial to ensure that your site is running at full capacity. Just like cars, websites require maintenance to operate properly. Maintaining your website and updating WordPress helps to ensure site security, increase the number of new visitors, boost returning traffic, convert web visitors to customers, and more.
At least every quarter there are a handful of things you should do to make sure your website is current and doesn’t risk breaking. Yep, websites can break and it’s no fun when it happens.
Core WordPress Updates
At least once a quarter you should back up your website, update WordPress to the current version as well as update your theme and plugins.
Please note: Do not update all plugins at once. They should be updated one by one. After each plugin update, you should check your site to make sure everything looks as it should and nothing is broken. In fact, unless you have experience backing up and updating your website, theme and plugins we suggest you have a professional do this task.
In addition, each quarter you should check your security plugins and overall web security. This is also a great time to make a simple round of web updates to improve and update pages.
Also Recommended Each Quarter
To truly keep up on your website maintenance, at least each quarter you should check for broken links and fix them.
If you don’t already do this monthly, make sure to review Google Analytics so you have a clear idea if your traffic is growing or dropping. You can also see where your traffic is coming from all all kinds of cool stats. While on the subject of Google Analytics, make sure G4 is verified and installed.
I also suggest checking your domain authority to know if it is increasing. That is what you want. With a couple of tools like Keysearch and SEMRush you can also check how many backlinks your website has, and how many keywords you rank for plus a ton more cool reports like checking competitor research.
You should also take a 10 minutes to wander around your site and review pages and posts to make sure there aren’t any broken areas. It’s also good to check any forms on the website to assure they work properly.
